It seems that our world is home to ever-increasing levels of radiation. We are exposed to radiation through such things as medical imaging as well as natural 'background' radiation from the planet and cosmos. Then there are the unexpected crises, such as the disaster at the Fukishama Nuclear Plant in Japan. Radiation experts recommend that we get less than one 'millisievert' a year beyond natural radiation, not counting medical tests (Source: Scientific American) but how would you even begin to calculate this for yourself?
If you are concerned about the potential threat to your health, then it's a great idea to learn a little more about what you can do to help yourself and your loved ones stay well. The human body is very powerful and has the ability to clean and regulate itself, even under extreme conditions. However, in order to do this, nutrition must be optimal and one of the problems we face is that certain vital nutrients are lacking in most typical Western diets. With correct supplementation the balance can be restored and in this article I suggest practices that I personally use. As with all non-medical advice though, please talk to your health practitioner before you embark on any new supplementation, and if you are currently taking medication or suffering from any illness, this is doubly important.

My aim is just to show you that you can find remedies that will support you. The two most important ones to take on a preventative basis are: -
IODINE. If there is enough non-radioactive iodine in your body, any radioactive iodine fallout has nowhere to bind to, and it will pass through. Taking a natural iodine liquid supplement isn't very tasty, but it's inexpensive and simple to do. And very effective. Personal dosage will vary and if you go to Regenerative Nutrition, they will have more detailed information available. SELENIUM - is complementary to iodine and it's a precursor to anti-oxidant and auto-immune system support.
In the event of a major fallout, radioactive plutonium will get into the bone marrow, DNA and inner organs. If you follow a detoxification protocol, you will keep your body clean. The supplements that you need are inexpensive and readily available. They include:
*Sodium Bicarbonate (NB Not baking powder) can bind with Uranium in the kidneys and will flush it out. Recommended usage is 1 teaspoon in a glass of water (for adults)or in times of contamination, dose yourself 3 times a day for up to 2 weeks. If you have any kidney problems whatsoever, seek medic
al advice first.
*Sea greens (can be taken in tablet form) *Colloidal minerals and Trace Elements (Colloidal means that very tiny particles of minerals are dispersed in a liquid medium that prevents them from settling)
*Germanium with Colloidal Minerals
*MSM - organic sulphur works with another potent antioxidant called R-Alpha Lipoic Acid to help detox heavy metals.
*Coriander - both leaf and powder, speeds up heavy metal detox. It must be used in conjunction with Sea greens to help prevent re-absorption into the bowel.
There are many other broad spectrum detoxification supplements available, but depending on your health, your budget and location, you may want to find out more first. It's worth remembering that after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, not everyone became sick from radioatcive fallout.
